No due recognition at home? Now I know how Vietnam War vets feels like

Right here in the tiny island of Singapore where our economy used to be based on import and export. 3 of our local startups have been kicking serious whoopass over at the TechoCrunch50 conference 2009 with their new and exciting offerings.

The 3 outstanding performers are
1) Socialwok
2) Adtopsy
3) iTwin

But so far, only our local blogs sgentrepreneurs.com and youngupstarts.com have been covering these young entrepreneurs while our local mainstream media have nary a word or peep to contribute.

Maybe they don’t think much of TechCrunch or know much of TechCrunch, so here is a snippet I took from Wikipedia.
“TechCrunch is a blog company that profiles startup companies, products and websites. It was founded by Michael Arrington in 2005. The blog’s first post was on June 11, 2005. The website’s Technorati rank is 2″.

A ranking of 2 means that the blog is read by almost every VC, techie, geek, nerd, anyone who is remotely interested in technology and the founder, Mike Arrington was “In 2008, he was selected by TIME Magazine as one of the most influential people in the world.”

Well, that should give the local media an idea of how big TechCrunch is, and maybe write a few articles supporting the local startups. Remember, Creative Technology was once a startup too.

    Hi Gibson,

Thanks for the link love. Other than my site and SGEntrepreneurs, there’s e27.sg as well where I first got the news.

The challenge, as someone commented on my site, was that such news appeal only to a very small, niche audience as opposed to the masses (whom the mainstream media serves).

    Hi Daniel,

Although such news appeals to a small niche audience and I am not expecting it to appear on the front page of ST. Maybe a small article on Digital Life would be good enough. Years ago, Digital Life did an article on this small gaming startup that was winning raved over their RTS prototype, so if they can do it then. Why not now?
